THE ANCIENT SETTLEMENT OF JESOLO, ORIGINALLY CALLED INSULA EQUILUS, THE ISLAND OF HORSES.<\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\n

Archaeological research in the area of Jesolo began last century, in the area of the Antiche Mura (Ancient Walls)<\/strong>. Here in fact were ruins of buildings dating back to the Medieval period: the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of San Mauro. From the early \u201860s, the Jesolo municipal authorities promoted a number of excavations to find out whether these ruins concealed further remains and testimonies of the past. However only in recent years, from 2011 to the present day, has the municipality given research a new, decisive impetus through a new archaeological excavation project and recovery of the entire area of the ancient compound, in collaboration with Ca\u2019 Foscari University of Venice and the Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Venice City and the Lagoon.
